Sunday night I awoke to the sound of sirens and flashing lights coming through the windows. I ran to the window and this is what I found at 4:30 a.m.
I said to my wife; "Andy's house is on fire!" We both ran out of the house to see if he was OK. Thank God he was fine physically. Emotionally he was still in shock. We comforted him the best way we could and told him that we were there for him. It must have been hard watching the house he grew up in engulfed in fire and smoke. It seemed that every fire truck in Northern Virginia showed up! I had never in my life seen so many fire trucks in one place. They went from one end of the block to the other and on two sides.
After I snapped this last shot, I turned around to find Andy sitting by himself on the sidewalk watching his house burn. I think this photo tells it all.
I can't imagine what he must be going through still to this moment. The house survived. However, he lost so much more that night. Our thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family.
